Built in 1947, this Craftsman style single family residence has been in the same family since its construction. The owner’s father built the house himself with a unique concrete block that his company manufactured right in Springfield, Georgia. The current owner, who inherited it from her parents, and grew up in the home, contacted Lominack Kolman Smith Architects to help her realize her ideas for the rehabilitation project.

All mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were completely replaced with new energy efficient systems, including a tankless propane water heater. The roof and windows were replaced, and all new finishes complete the rehabilitated interior. Additionally, the former porte-ce-chere was enclosed to create a screened porch, the original sun room restored, and the former two car garage has become a family room, laundry room, and guest suite.

The interior ceilings throughout the living areas were raised to the underside of the roof and a loft added above the bedrooms. A new stair from the office provides access to the loft, but also serves as a focal point and a work of art. Other upgrades included landscaping and site work, new bathrooms, a new kitchen, and a new entry roof to redefine the front entrance.

The kitchen is a true reflection of the Craftsman style with custom hand scraped cabinets, and retro appliances. The floor plan has been opened up to allow visibility from the kitchen to the living area while maintaining the historic integrity of the floor plan.
