This 12,000 square foot facility was designed for Savannah Area Family Emergency’s administrative offices and as housing for approximately 24 clients. The building was constructed in a residential neighborhood (exact location confidential) to resemble a large home. The administrative areas include offices for counseling and support services, a director’s office, a break room, and a conference room for the Board of Directors. Major complications arose when the building burned halfway through construction, but the project team worked together to demolish, rebuild, and finish the project quickly. The project was nominated for awards in two categories: Emergency Shelter Services Award and Superior Design at the Georgia 2002 Housing Conference, sponsored by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs; and the Magnolia Award for Emergency Shelters. It won the Magnolia Award in the Superior Design category. |
