additional information

The renovation of the Live Oak Cottages involved a conversion of six historic wood-framed cottages and one masonry commercial structure into transitional housing for Union Mission Inc. The cottages were built by the Chatham Real Estate and Improvement Company around 1912, and the commercial structure, which served most recently as a coin laundry, was built in the 1930s.

The project involved a combination of restoration, renovation, and new construction, and resulted in nine two-bedroom dwelling units and one three-bedroom dwelling unit with an average of 590 square feet per unit. The site, located within the Thomas Square Streetcar National Historic District, is bordered by East 33rd Street and East 34th Street on the north and south, and East Broad and Ware Streets on the east and west.
